To Repair or Replace?
If your air conditioning unit is regularly experiencing problems, you might be wondering whether to repair or replace it.
Depending on the type of issue, it may be more cost-effective for you to replace the unit rather than just temporarily fixing the problem. We know that household budgets are often tight, which is why we will provide you with advice on the most cost-effective solution.
If the unit is still under warranty, we recommend you contact the manufacturer first. If the unit is out of warranty or beyond repair, then it might be wise to replace the unit completely. We can give you advice on which brands and solutions are best suited for your household.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Got any questions? Perth City Air has you covered. Ask our friendly team over the phone or in-person. We’re happy to help out!
How much does it cost to repair a home air conditioner?
It’s hard to put an exact figure on a repair cost without knowing the repairs needed. Costs are generally determined by the level of repair, how labour-intensive the repairs are and the cost and availability of the parts needed. We will give you a detailed quote of the costs up front so you can decide whether repairs or replacement is the best option.
How do I know if my air con needs repairs?
If you notice the airflow is low or the home is hotter or colder than usual, these are common signs that your air conditioning needs repairs. You may also hear strange noises or smells coming from the unit of vents. Another indication is your power bill. When an air con unit is damaged or has a broken component, it tends to work harder and use more power.
How long do residential air conditioners last?
The life expectancy of your air conditioner will depend on the brand, the usage and the service history. If your air con unit is regularly maintained you should get 10, 15 or even 20 years of comfortable use. Remember, it is an electrical appliance and parts will break down over time.
Can I repair my own home air con unit?
Air conditioning units have many moving parts and diagnosing a problem is best left to the experts. Attempting to self-repair your unit could cause further damage and end up costing you more. There is also a health and safety risk with live electricity and climbing into or on roofs.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
TESTIMONIALS
We recently had our existing ducted system replaced with a 14 kW Daikin three-phase ducted system, AirTouch 5, individual room temperature control and additional outlets to the ensuite and bathroom.
James Crabtree was outstanding throughout the entire process, from my initial quote request right through to commissioning. He remained helpful and engaged at every stage and even took the time to personally show me how to use the various functions of our AirTouch 5 system.
Our project formed part of a larger renovation and had several specific requirements, including a staged installation coordinated with other trades. James, Nick—the on-site supervisor—and the entire installation team handled everything professionally and ensured every requirement was met.
As an electrician, I tend to pay close attention to the quality of installation work. I can confidently say that the workmanship in the roof space was top-notch. The high-quality fixing and hanging systems, precise duct placement, proper support and overall attention to detail were genuinely impressive. It was clear that considerable care and pride went into the installation.
Perth City Air may cost a little more than some alternatives, but the quality of the equipment, installation and customer service made it absolutely worth the extra investment. I am extremely happy with the finished system and would highly recommend James, Nick and the Perth City Air team.
James was fantastic to deal with from start to finish. He stayed in regular contact and routinely checked in throughout the whole process to make sure everything was on track and that we were happy. He was always easily contactable and incredibly responsive whenever we had a question or needed anything clarified, which made the whole experience really easy and stress-free.
The job itself wasn’t the easiest, but the installation team handled everything with ease. They were professional, friendly, efficient and clearly took pride in their work. Chris was particularly great and went above and beyond to make sure everything was done properly and that we were happy with the result.
They also removed and disposed of our old split systems without any hassle, which was a huge bonus and made the whole process even easier for us.
The entire experience with Perth City Air was excellent. They made what could have been a complicated job feel completely straightforward, and the finished result is fantastic. Perth City Air are easily recommended to anyone looking for a quality air conditioning installation.
Thanks again to James, Chris and the whole team!
I wasn't sure about the unit size, so Ryan went above and beyond. He sent me the design of his own home and his usage across several days, which was a nice personal touch.
On the day, Eric and his team carried out an exceptional install. They talked through everything with me to make sure it was correct and left my property clean and tidy afterwards.
Even after the install, they are more than happy to take calls and help me optimise my Airtouch 5 system. You can tell they take real pride in their service and workmanship!
The air con replacement team took a whole day, but did a great job, leaving the area clean and tidy, taking away all the waste from the old system. The house had a tricky design, but they were able to troubleshoot problems, including having to install a ‘manhole’ into a wall for access (this was done a week prior).
The electricians came out the next day, did their work, upgraded the meter box to be modern and large enough to fit what was needed, and installed the control panel, explaining how to use it.
System has been working fine, currently winter, so only using the heating functions.
We had our power tripping 3 weeks later in the upstairs lights. We called back their electrical team (as the timing was suspicious). They spent a few hours in the roof diagnosing the problem, and found and replaced an existing lighting cable which must have been damaged during the installation 3 weeks prior. This was at no extra cost, and was performed very professionally.
The team have been great, communication efficient and timely, highly recommend Perth City Air for this type of work.
James as the sales consultant was on time, knowledgeable and attentive to my requirements, providing me options tailored to my budget and a quote in next voto no time.
The installation team were on time, considerate of my house and the place was spotless afterwards.
Result: a great system that is easy to use, does what it is supposed at a good price.
Aftercare: I've called on them twice since the install and I couldn't have asked for better customer service or responsiveness.
Great company, great team, great product!
Thank you!
The team made it a quick and simple process.
